Check your blog indexing settings

In WordPress, the blog indexing setting controls whether search engines can show your website in search results. If this setting is off, search engines won’t index your site, keeping it out of search results. This can be useful when you’re still working on your site, but once you’re ready to go public, it’s important to make sure this setting is correct.

What are blog indexing settings?

The blog indexing setting in WordPress decides if search engines can show your site in their results. By default, WordPress allows search engines to index your site. But if your site is still in progress or you don’t want it to show up in search results yet, you can turn this option off.

Why is checking your blog indexing settings important?

If you’re ready for your site to be visible in search engines, you need to make sure this setting is turned off. If it’s left on, search engines will keep your site hidden, which means people won’t be able to find it through a Google search.

For your website to attract traffic, it’s crucial that search engines can find and display your pages when people search for related topics. This is where checking your blog indexing setting comes in.

How to check your blog indexing settings in WordPress

  1. Log in to your WordPress website

Go to your WordPress dashboard at yourdomain.com/wp-admin.

  2. Go to Settings

On the left menu, hover over Settings and click on Reading.

  3. Check the “Search Engine Visibility” box

In the Reading Settings, you’ll see an option called “Search Engine Visibility.” This controls whether search engines can index your site. If the box is checked, search engines can’t index your site. If the box is unchecked, search engines can index your site.

  4. Uncheck the box to allow indexing

If you’re ready for your site to appear in search engines, uncheck the box. If you want to keep your site hidden, leave it checked.

  5. Click Save changes

Don’t forget to hit Save changes to update the setting.
