Disabling your attachment pages

What are attachment pages?

Attachment (or media) pages are automatically generated by WordPress when media files, such as images, videos, or PDFs, are uploaded to the media library. Each attachment page has a unique URL and typically displays the media file along with some metadata, such as the file title or description.

Who should disable them?

For most users, it’s best to disable attachment pages. However, photographers or those who rely heavily on showcasing individual images may find it beneficial to keep them enabled.

Why do you need to disable them?

Attachment pages provide little to no value because they usually contain only a media file, making them thin content. This can negatively impact SEO, as search engines tend to view thin content as low quality, which may harm your rankings.

Additionally, if a user lands on an attachment page instead of the original post where the image was used, they might miss important context. This can lead to a higher bounce rate and lower engagement.

Attachment pages can also contribute to duplicate content issues, which further harm SEO performance.
